Cristhian Martinez, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.7 grade point average for the semester.


Wheaton College student Cassia Waligora, of Henrico, recently performed in the 2018 Commencement Celebration Concert. Waligora sang alto I with the Women’s Chorale.

Shreyas Arcot, of Glen Allen, won the “You Be The Chemist” challenge June 18 in Washington, D.C. Arcot correctly answered science- and chemistry-related questions throughout a day-long 11 rounds of academic bee-style competition. It was his third time competing at the National Challenge. “You Be The Chemist” is an academic competition targeted at students in grades 5-8, when most U.S. students have not studied chemistry as its own subject. The National Challenge is the culmination of local and state Challenges that happen throughout the school year in 40 states and two U.S. territories (D.C. and Puerto Rico). Approximately 46,000 students participated in Challenge events across the country in 2018 and one student from each of these 42 statewide competitions came to Washington, D.C. to compete for the National Champion title. Arcot, a seventh-grader at Moody Middle School, and three other placing students will share a total of $22,500 in scholarships and other science-related prizes.

Jessica Jahn, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester.


Dylan R. Leigh-Manuell, of Glen Allen, was named a presidential scholar for the spring 2018 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. Presidential scholars must earn a minimum 3.80 grade point average for the semester. Leigh-Manuell is a sophomore majoring in aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering.


Sommer Harris, of Henrico, recently graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University. Harris received a BA from the College of Arts and Sciences.


Meagan Justice, of Henrico, recently graduated magna cum laude from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Justice earned a bachelor of arts degree in theatre and English.


Arnold Roots, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Fairmount State University in West Virginia. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.4 or greater grade point average for the semester.


Jane Blackmer, of Henrico, graduated magna cum laude May 20 from Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, Mass. Blackmer earned a bachelor’s degree in biology.


Delaney O’Donnell, of Henrico, graduated summa cum laude in the honors college May 18 from Missouri State University. O’Donnell earned a bachelor of science degree in Animal Science.
