The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants recently recognized 57 members with its 2018 Life Member Award: Charles W. Bartlett, Jr., T. Norman Bush, Earle S. Dendtler, Park A. Dodd, Walter J. Kucharski, Clive A. Morey, James E. Pfeiffer and J.K. Timmons, Jr., of Henrico; and James E. Copp, Carl A. Loden and Lee P. Martin, of Glen Allen. The award recognizes those who have been members of the VSCPA for at least 40 continuous years. Including this year’s inductees, only 637 members have received the coveted Life Member Award in the VSCPA’s 109-year history. Recipients of the Life Member Award will have their annual VSCPA membership dues waived and will continue to receive all benefits extended to VSCPA members, including all services and publications. They are also honored with a special lapel pin and certificate of recognition.


The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants recently announced its officers and Board of Directors for the 2018-19 fiscal year. Gary R. Thompson, of Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, will serve as chair-elect. Henry Davis III, of Virginia Commonwealth University, and Anne B. Hagen, of Masonic Home of Virginia, were named vice chairs. Local at-large board members include George D. Forsythe, of WellsColeman, and Stephen R. Theuer, of Deloitte & Touche LLP.


The Virginia Society of CPAs Political Action Committee recently announced its officers and Board of Trustees for the 2018-19 fiscal year. T. Brett Sinsabaugh, of Keiter in Glen Allen, will serve as vice-chair. Local board members include Louise W. Reed, of Louise W. Reed CPA, PC, and James K. Walker, of Cherry Bekaert LLP.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his Administration. Ann Battle Macheras, of Henrico, was reappointed to the Joint Advisory Board of Economists. She is the group VP for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Dr. A. Fletcher Mangum, of Henrico, also was appointed to the Joint Advisory Board of Economists. He is CEO of Mangum Economics.


The following local students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Emory & Henry College: Emily Lancaster and Jacob Lawson, of Henrico; and William Vliet, of Glen Allen. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.6 grade point average for the semester.

Armentrout, William H. Atwill II, Robert C. Elliott, Mason A. Louthan, Samuel P. Moffatt, Kendra S. Appleby, Andrew J. Green, Ross A. Condrey, Samuel B. Reiner and Alec H. Rich.


University of Alabama student Barclay Jumet, of Henrico, will participate in UA's Cooperative Education Program for summer 2018. Jumet will be working at Hyster-Yale Group in Sulligent, Ala. In the Cooperative Education Program, more than 250 students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student, experience that enhances the students' employment prospects after graduation.


Nicholas Paraiso, of Glen Allen, recently was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Paraiso was initiated at the United States Naval Academy.


Sarah Busch, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.5 or higher grade point average for the semester. Busch is a Middle Level Education major.


The following students from Henrico County were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.: Gregory Benjamin Vaeth Jr., Elizabeth Douglas McLean, Benjamin Lee Ellis, Margaret Ingram Legro, Elizabeth Campbell Spilman and Carter Winston Ware.


Eliza Jane Goodpasture, of Henrico, graduated cum laude May 26 from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. She majored in art history with a minor in gender, sexuality and women’s studies.


Jack Maraghy, of Henrico, graduated May 27 from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. He received a BA degree in film studies.


Noah Dziedzic, of Henrico, graduated May 20 from Centre College in Danville, Ky. He received a bachelor of science degree in psychology. He is the son of Beverly and Joseph Dziedzic and a graduate of Collegiate School.


Destiny R. Saunders-Simon, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at East Tennessee State University. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester.

Jack P. Rotty, of Henrico, graduated May 5 from Furman University in Greenville, S.C. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin D. Rotty.


Heather Nicole Jenkins, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Iowa State University. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.50 or greater grade point average for the semester. Jenkins is majoring in Construction Engineering.
