McEachin to host virtual roundtable Sept. 19 about Black maternal mortality

Table of Contents

U.S. Congressman A. Donald McEachin of Virginia’s Fourth District, which includes Eastern Henrico, will host a virtual roundtable Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss Black maternal mortality. McEachin, a member of the Black Maternal Mortality Caucus, will join panelists for a discussion on why Black women are two to three times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy-related causes – which are largely preventable – and how the issue can be addressed.

McEachin co-introduced The Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2020 (Momnibus), a legislative package designed to address the United States’ maternal health crisis. The Momnibus is designed to build upon existing maternal health legislation by filling gaps through nine new bills to comprehensively address every dimension of the Black maternal health crisis.

Other panelists will include Erica McAfee, a grief and pregnancy loss coach and host of Sisters in Loss podcast; registered nurse Stephanie Spencer, the founder and executive director or Urban Baby Beginnings; and Dr. Lauren Powell, founder and CEO of The Equitist, LLC
