Table of Contents

In recognition of February as Black History Month, Congressman Donald McEachin of Virginia’s Fourth District, which includes Eastern Henrico, has announced a Black History Month essay contest for middle and high school students who live in the district.

“Black History Month honors the historic and present contributions that African American men and women have made in our country,” McEachin said. “I want to encourage our young folks and students to think about what these contributions and this month mean to them personally, and I look forward to seeing their responses.

The contest is open through Feb. 6. Middle school students should write essays of between 350 and 500 words about the topic “What Black History month means to me,” while high school students’s essays should be between 500 and 750 words. Entries should be e-mailed to VA04.projects@mail.house.gov. Winners will be notified individually and then announced on McEachin’s social media platforms.
