McClellan opens application process for Fourth District Youth Advisory Council

Table of Contents

High school students in Virginia's Fourth Congressional district have the opportunity to become part of U.S. Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan's Youth Advisory Council, which she announced this week.

The council will offer a platform for students to engage with their representative, federal staff, and current events through a series of monthly meetings.

Open to students in grades 9-12 who reside or attend school in the district, the YAC will comprise 25 members from various high schools. The district includes Eastern Henrico.

The council will convene five times, with monthly meetings held virtually from January to May. During the meetings, members will discuss legislative proposals, current events, and work through hypothetical scenarios. They will also have the opportunity to connect with legislative and district staff in Washington, D.C., gaining insights into the legislative process.

The culminating meeting in May will offer students a chance to directly engage with McClellan, discussing policy interests and volunteering with her.

The application period for the Youth Advisory Council is open through Dec. 30. Those selected to the council will be notified Jan. 15, and the first meeting is scheduled for Jan. 27.
