Today is the start of Telework Week in Virginia, designed to spotlight the opportunities for employees to work from home as a way to reduce traffic congestion and increase employee productivity and retention. The event, now in its ninth year, is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. DRPT and commuter assistance agencies throughout the state are encouraging employers to explore teleworking by allowing eligible employees to telework at least one day this week.

"Teleworking is a great way for Virginia businesses to boost their bottom line and ensure continuity of operations during inclement weather,” said DRPT Director Jennifer Mitchell. “It’s a win-win for employees and the businesses that employ them.”

Through a partnership between DRPT and VDOT, businesses in Northern Virginia also can receive free technical assistance and as much as $10,000 in financial assistance to develop telework policies, identify and assess positions best suited for telework and train managers how to manage teleworkers.
