Richmond man killed in Short Pump hit-and-run incident

A hit-and-run incident on West Broad Street in Short Pump has left one man dead.

At about 11 p.m. Sept. 11, Henrico Police responded to West Broad Street near Spring Oak Drive and found 52-year-old Alonzo Earl Williams, Sr., of Richmond, lying in the road. He later died.

Police officials continue to investigate the incident and have not yet provided any identifying characteristics of the vehicle that struck Williams. Their preliminary investigation shows that Williams appeared to walk into the roadway before being struck. There should be damage to the wheel well of the vehicle involved in the crash, police officials said.

West Broad Street between Lauderdale Drive and Pump Road was closed for several hours following the incident.
