Man dies in Eastern Henrico following crash, officer shooting

A man died Saturday night in Eastern Henrico after the car he was in crashed and overturned several times and then its two occupants were involved in an encounter with a responding Henrico police officer who shot one of them.

Police did not indicate whether the man who died was the one shot and did not elaborate on the nature of the encounter.

Witnesses reported the crash – which happened on eastbound I-64, east of I-295, after 6 p.m. Nov. 6 – to authorities. A Henrico officer responded and the encounter with the occupants occurred, prompting the officer to fire and strike one of them, according to police. Witnesses reported a massive police presence at the scene.
