Virginia Republican Delegate Manoli Loupassi, who represents the 68th District (including several Henrico precincts), has requested a recount in his race with Democrat Dawn Adams, who won the Nov. 7 election by 336 votes. Loupassi previously conceded the race twice but yesterday filed a recount request in Richmond Circuit Court.

Loupassi, an attorney, has held the seat since 2008. His loss was one of many surprising Republican losses that left the party with just a two-seat majority in the House (51 to 49), with two other recounts pending that could cost the party that majority.

Adams, a nurse practitioner, said in a statement that she would continue to serve as Delegate-elect while the recount is conducted.

"I believe the people have spoken, and I am excited and ready to get to work for the constituents of the 68th District," Adams said in a statement. "We were vigilant in our efforts to assure the accuracy of reporting; no discrepancies were found in the post election canvass to alter the results and we are confident in the outcome as certified by the State Board of Elections on November 20th."
