Lottery ticket a winner for Highland Springs buyer

A lottery ticket bought in Highland Springs was one of two big winners in the Virginia Lottery Sept. 9.The Bank a Million ticket, worth $1 million after taxes, was bought at Tobacco Zone on South Airport Drive in Highland Springs.  A Powerball ticket purchased in Cape Charles was also a million-dollar winner.

Whoever has the winning ticket has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize. The Virginia Lottery advises that before doing anything else, the winners should immediately sign the back of their tickets to establish ownership. When they are ready to claim the prizes, they should contact the Virginia Lottery.

The stores that sold the winning tickets each receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than $867 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
