Local instrumental band Balter Choir will release its new single, "Lakeside Sunset," on all streaming platforms Nov. 29 at midnight. The song blends psychedelic rock with pop and soul, reflecting the band's goal of creating good vibes.

The band, formed by four friends who have played together in various projects over the years, consists of John Longbottom (guitar), Jeffery Harper (guitar), Jake Lawrence (bass), and Ryan “Tech” Bowman (drums). The band members met through the Metro Richmond music scene, performing with Virginia artists such as Jaylin Brown, Tim Beavers II, and Caroline Weinroth.

"Lakeside Sunset" originated from a melody Lawrence wrote in high school. The song evolved from a piece used in his pandemic project, "Yellow Glads," that he brought to the band for a fuller arrangement. The track captures the essence of a beautiful sunset, evoking a sense of community and shared experience.

“Erin and I moved to Lakeside in 2023," Lawrence said. "One of the daily highlights was coming home from work and watching the sunset from our back porch. We would see our neighbors, who usually keep to themselves, run to their front yard to take pictures of the sun setting. Everyone works hard. Everyone’s tired. But one thing we can do as a community is sit with our loved ones and enjoy a beautiful sunset."
