The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Richmond was recently ranked the number 24 Walk in the United States, with participants raising $632,649 to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs.

On Nov. 4, more than 1,000 residents walked at the annual event at Libbie Mill Midtown. Lakewood Retirement Community was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk; residents and team members held small and large events throughout the year and raised more than $64,328.

“It was a joy for our residents and team members to work together to raise money for this worthy cause.  Alzheimer’s has affected most of us in some way; so this was personal for the members of Team Lakewood,” said Sally San Soucie, community outreach liaison at Lakewood.

In 2022, nearly 52,000 teams participated in more than 600 Walks across the country, raising more than $90.6 million. Together, the top 30 Walks contributed more than $26 Million to the overall total raised.
