A popular Lakeside bakery is planning a second location across the county-city line in Richmond by following the trail left by another bake shop.

Up All Night Bakery, which is located in a 450-square-foot spot at 5411 Lakeside Avenue once occupied by Early Bird Biscuit Company, plans to add another location at 1221 Bellevue Avenue – also a former Early Bird location – according to owner Jonathan Highfield.

In a Facebook post announcing the expansion, Highfield made it clear that the shop was not leaving Lakeside – just expanding to another spot. Initially, he wrote, the Bellevue space will be used only for production, but after several months, he plans to open it as a full-service bakery.

He thanked Tim Laxton, who owns Early Bird Biscuit Company, for inspiration. Highfield was serving his baked goods at local farmers’ markets when he met Laxton several years ago, and he prepared his food at Early Bird’s Bellevue spot.

Now, things are coming full-circle.

“I could not have done all of this without your support and want to especially thank Tim Laxton for helping me realize me dream,” Highfield wrote.
