For the first time in its organizational history, Lakeside Youth Baseball will send an all-star team to a Babe Ruth World Series.

The 13-15 year-old all-star team completed an undefeated run through the Virginia state tournament by defeating Manassas, 2-0, at JEJ Moore Middle School in Disputanta July 18.

Lakeside pitcher Jaethan Inman (a student at Hanover High School) was named the state tournament MVP after throwing 15.2 innings, striking out 15 batters and allowing no earned runs.

The team earlier had defeated Charlottesville (6-4), N. Fairfax County (8-4) and Gloucester (7-0) prior to beating Manassas, which was playing its seventh game of the tournament after advancing through the loser’s bracket.

Lakeside next will advance to the Southeast Regional tournament in Williamsburg, beginning July 27, but has automatically qualified for the Babe Ruth World Series, since it is being hosted in Stafford, Virginia.

The team is trying to raise $8,000 to fund its trip and stay in Stafford for the event, which will take place Aug 11-21. A GoFundMe page has been established for those who want to help support the team.
