Citizen Managing Editor Patty Kruszewski has won an award in the 2018 National Federation of Press Women national Communications Contest.

The entry in the NFPW contest was one of two that advanced to the national competition after winning first place awards in this year's Virginia Professional Communicators contest.

In the category of feature stories, Kruszewski won an honorable mention nationally for the story, "Fire thieves and sour lemons" about former firefighter Michael Brigati. Brigati wrote the book Fire Thieves as a tribute to his late son, and fundraises for charitable causes at book signings.
