Kroger Mid-Atlantic is moving its offices from Roanoke to Henrico County, company officials announced Aug. 4.

The company’s new site – at 140 East Shore Drive, just off Nuckols Road in Glen Allen – sits in the shadows of a Publix supermarket and a Food Lion store. The move will take place by the end of the year, and Kroger intends to begin full operations at the new site in 2021.

The move will establish division operations in a location that is better equipped and positioned to serve and support all markets throughout the territory of Kroger Mid-Atlantic, company officials said. The division oversees 110 stores and about 18,000 employees in five states (Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio).

Kroger’s recent focus on growth in the Metro Richmond and Hampton Roads regions made the move attractive, officials said. The Mid-Atlantic division has about 100 employees, and the company has created a variety of options for them to consider through the transition. The company’s warehouse operations, logistics and its Roanoke district leadership team will remain in that region.

Kroger Mid-Atlantic entered the Richmond market in 2000 when it acquired the 10 Hannaford grocery stores. Since then, its presence has grown to 18 stores, including four Marketplace stores and 16 fuel centers.
