In partnership with Greater Richmond Transit Company, Kroger will host a “Fill The Bus” drive at its Willow Lawn store, 1601 Willow Lawn Drive in Henrico, Saturday, Sept. 7 from noon to 4 p.m.

The drive is a part of Kroger’s Zero | Hunger Zero Waste efforts in the Richmond area and will provide an opportunity for the community to supply Feed More with needed items during Hunger Action Month and the busy back to school season.

Most-needed items include peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken and low sodium vegetables. These items help Feed More provide those in need with nutritious food for well-balanced meals.

“Food drives like this are one of the most effective ways we can get food on the table for families in need,” said Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager for Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “We’re excited to be working with GRTC to support Feed More and we look forward to getting this bus filled with food!”

Community members interested in participating in the drive are invited to simply take items to the bus, which will be located outside of the store during the designated hours.

“Many of our bus routes are designed to connect people with healthful food options, and the Willow Lawn area is one of the busiest destinations in our system,” said GRTC spokeswoman Carrie Rose Pace. “We are committed to responding to the needs of the communities we serve and know the food donated in the bus will serve our neighbors in need.”
