Henrico County officials are denouncing flyers found Oct. 15-17 in the Fairfield and Varina districts purportedly from the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

Henrico Police received reports of suspicious packages in the two districts containing the flyers, and they have increased their patrols in and around the communities in which the flyers were distributed.

“In no uncertain terms, Henrico County deplores and condemns these leaflets and their twisted message of white supremacy,” Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas said in a statement. “This community will not be divided. We encourage our residents to be vigilant, to watch out for their neighbors and to support each other. Our spirit of inclusion, love and community will always triumph over messages of division and hate.”

Henrico Police Chief Eric English encouraged residents with information about the incidents to contact the division.

“Hate has no place in Henrico County,” English said. “The safety and well-being of our community is the top priority of Henrico Police and acts of intimidation will not be tolerated.”

The Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, also condemned the flyers in a statement.

"The ongoing promotion of racism and white supremacy in Virginia and nationwide must be condemned by all Americans who value justice and national unity," said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

Hooper noted that CAIR recently called for action to protect a family from racist harassment in Virginia. He said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and other forms of bigotry.
