Henrico County’s volunteer rescue squads will face off in a kickball tournament hosted by the Henrico Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads on Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Deep Run High School.

"Let's do an event where we all get together and it's [a] fellowship and we get to know each other," Henrico County Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads President and Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad President Andy Inge said when describing what inspired the idea of a kickball tournament.

“The main reason that I wanted to plan it was because I wanted to create a better atmosphere between all of the squads in Henrico,” explained Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad membership Committee member Kaley Reich, who organized the event.

The tournament also offers community members a chance to meet others and support their local squads. Admission is $5 on the day of the event, and community members can show their support for the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Henrico Division of Fire by purchasing a Pitch It and Kick It shirt in their team’s color at the game.

All food and ticket profits will benefit the Henrico squads. In addition, there will be a tournament break during which families and their kids can go onto the field to kick the ball around.

Volunteers are needed for help with running the scoreboard, time clock, ticket booths, handing out water and helping with event setup and take-down. To learn how you can volunteer or assist with the event, click here.
