A job fair is planned Saturday, April 15, for Tyson Foods employees who are facing layoffs as a result of the company’s decision to close its facility in Hanover County.

United Food & Commercial Workers Local 400 Union will host the event, planned for Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1720 Mechanicsville Turnpike, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The union will have a 401K expert in attendance to answer questions, in addition to a growing number of employers who are looking to hire. Representatives from Virginia Employment Center Rapid Response Services, Virginia AFL-CIO, and Virginia Career Services also will be present to provide assistance to workers who need it.

On March 13, Tyson Foods officials announced plans to close the Glen Allen plant after decades of operation, a move that will affect almost 700 workers.

UFCW Local 400, the union representing the workers, criticized the plans. The plant, at 13264 Mountain Road, is scheduled to close May 12.
