You’ll soon be able to fly nonstop from Richmond to Los Angeles and to Las Vegas for the first time ever, thanks to new service announced today by JetBlue.

The airline will begin daily nonstop service between Richmond International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport Dec. 18. That’s the same day nonstop service between Richmond and Las Vegas’s McCarran International Airport will begin.

Nonstop flights will run daily from RIC to and from both cities.

On Nov. 19, JetBlue will begin daily nonstop service between RIC and Tampa International Airport in Florida.

All routes will be served by one flight each direction per day.

“Richmond International Airport welcomes JetBlue’s historic news this morning, announcing the airport’s first-ever transcontinental option to Los Angeles, first-ever service to Las Vegas, and new nonstop service to Tampa,” said Capital Region Airport Commission chairman Pat O’Bannon, Henrico's Tuckahoe District supervisor. “Each of the three destinations are popular for Richmond region travelers and the flights certainly make it easier than ever for visitors to enjoy the attractions of Virginia’s Capital Region.”

The daily flight to LAX will depart Richmond at 8 a.m. each morning and arrive in Los Angeles at 11:04 a.m. Pacific Coast time. The daily return flight will depart LAX at 12:15 Pacific time and arrive in Richmond at 7:15 Eastern time. Basic fares for flights during the first several weeks of service start at $99 one way. Those for flights farther in the future start at $133 one-way.

The daily flight to Las Vegas will depart Richmond at 9 a.m. and arrives in Las Vegas at 11:18 a.m. Pacific time. The daily return flight will depart Las Vegas at 1:15 p.m. Pacific time and arrive at RIC at 8:32 p.m. Eastern time. Initial fares begin at $93 one-way, while flights farther in the future start at $139 one-way.

“JetBlue’s announcement of service from Richmond to three premier destinations, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Tampa, is incredible news for the region,” said Perry J. Miller, president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Commission. “Hat’s off to JetBlue for recognizing the demand potential of the Richmond market and fast-tracking these routes to start in November and December. RIC is very appreciative of these opportunities.”

Service to and from both Los Angeles and Las Vegas will use an Airbus A320 jet, which can seat 156 passengers.

In total, JetBlue announced 24 new routes Thursday.
