Table of Contents

Henrico Police and Fire officials are continuing to identify the cause and circumstances surrounding a fatal house fire in Eastern Henrico County in the early morning hours of Dec. 15.

The fire occurred at a home in the 1800 block of Eldridge Lane, just off Mechanicsville Turnpike and not far from the Hidden Creek Recreation Center. Two adult residents died from injuries suffered in the blaze, including 61-year-old Gail Katrina Thompson. (The second victim has not been publicly identified because the next-of-kin has not been notified.) A third person evacuated the home and was not injured, and the fourth resident of the home was out of state at the time.

The fire occurred shortly after 2:20 a.m. in a corner room in the back of the home and was extinguished within 15 minutes. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, and the Henrico County Police Division is conducting a concurrent investigation as a result of the two deaths.

Officials are working closely with the State’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to identify and determine the causes of death for both victims.

Local residents with any possible video or photos of the incident are asked to share recordings with detectives and the fire marshal, regardless of how small that information may seem.
