The popular Innsbrook after Hours concert series, a staple of the Glen Allen business and residential community for more than two decades, is leaving for Caroline County.

Organizers made the announcement Monday, indicating that the series this year would move to The Meadow Event Park (home of the State Fair of Virginia) and be known as “After Hours Concerts at The Meadow Event Park.”

The first show at the new venue is planned for May 14, featuring Jamey Johnson.

EventMakers-USA, which produces the series, is planning for a season of at least 30 shows this year. It touted a “significantly larger” footprint at the new site and more flexibility to present shows based upon social distancing guidelines.

Company officials had intended originally for last year to be the last at the Innsbrook site, planning an exit to make way for planned development in the area where the concerts have been held in recent years. The season was cancelled by the pandemic, but then initial plans for this year’s season called for it to resume at the Innsbrook site.

But that changed Monday with the announcement of the move.

In an email to the Citizen, EventsMakers-USA President Larry Creeger said that he anticipates the series could “very possibly” remain at Meadow Event Park for many more years but said that his company also is interested in bringing a concert series back to Henrico “if a suitable location can be found.

“Our goal is to provide the area with multiple series under the ‘After Hours Concerts’ banner,” he said.

Creeger said that while his company is discussing with the Innsbrook community how it might assist with what it expects to be a new iteration of the Innsbrook concert series (most likely weekly Wednesday shows, in a return to its original format), “we all know that Innsbrook After Hours will always be in Innsbrook with or without our participation.”

Anyone who holds tickets for shows originally planned for Innsbrook can use them for those shows at Meadow Event Park. Those who want refunds must do so by April 27.
