Initial unemployment claims in Henrico during the most recent reporting period were virtually unchanged from the previous week, according to data released Nov. 19 by the Virginia Employment Commission.

A total of 285 county residents filed first-time claims during the week of Nov. 8-14, down just 4 from the previous week. Only about 3,100 people are still filing continuing claims in Henrico, after a number reached the end of their eligibility periods.

In total since the pandemic began, Henrico has witnessed more than 42,000 people file initial unemployment claims.

Earlier this week, the VEC was notified by the U.S. Department of Labor that the extended benefits program in the state will end Saturday, meaning that this will be the last payable week for such benefits. Those affected will be notified by the VEC through their Gov2Go accounts.
