Initial unemployment claims in Henrico County dropped by about 13.5% during the most recent reporting week – just about on par with the statewide drop – according to the Virginia Employment Commission.

A total of 337 Henricoans filed first-time claims during the week of Jan. 17-23, down from 390 who did so the previous week. Henrico is the seventh-largest locality in the state, but 11 others reported more first-time filers during the most recent period.

Statewide, initial claims fell by 13.1% during the most recent week.

In Henrico, 2,097 people who previously had filed first-time claims were continuing to file claims during the most recent week – down by just one person from the previous week. That ranked the county eighth statewide in that category.
