River City Inclusive Gym will celebrate its grand opening in the Tuckahoe Village Shopping Center (11248 Patterson Avenue) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 2.

The gym is a nonprofit organization that provides an environment designed for children, teens and adults with disabilities. RCIG also provides opportunities for athletes to improve their social and motor skills, as well as their self-esteem through group gymnastics and fitness training.

The grand opening will be free to the public and will include beverages and treats, door prizes and Macro’s Pizza. There also will be open gym time, meetings with the coaches and a meet-and-greet with MIX 98.1’s Kat Simons.

Mike McGrath, CEO and Head Coach of RCIG, said he’s ecstatic about the opening, as the number of people served by the gym has been increasing for the past six years.

“Our gym continues to grow from our first class back in 2016 in rented gym space to the current 125 athletes that we serve today. We absolutely need our own gym as our wait list continued to grow last year as demand for our classes grew,” he said. “Having our own gym is a dream come true and we want to share it with the community! There are over 17,000 school age individuals, and even more adults, with disabilities in the Greater Richmond area. We’re all in to reach as many people as possible.”
