Inaugural ‘CTE Career Rodeo’ planned

Table of Contents

Henrico Schools’ Department of Workforce and Career Development will host its first-ever Career and Technical Education Career Rodeo Feb. 28 at the Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Ave.

The CTE Career Rodeo will give students the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of other students, members of the public and potential employers. During the event, to be held in the Old Dominion Building, students will solve work-based challenges demonstrating their hands-on skills as area employers look on. The skills challenges will take place from noon until 2 p.m., with award presentations following the event.

The CTE Career Rodeo is the second of three annual, sequential career events for students. In October, the CTE Career Expo brought students and local employers together to talk about career opportunities, interact and participate in interviews. At the spring “CTE Letter-of-Intent Signing Day," Henrico Schools’ career version of ceremonies for high school athletes, seniors and their future employers will sign symbolic agreements in front of families and members of the media.

The Feb. 28 CTE Career Rodeo will offer businesses a first look at students’ soft skills — such as presentation ability and public speaking — as well as the hands-on skills necessary to do their jobs.

To register a business for the event, or for more information, contact Mac Beaton, director of HCPS’ Department of Career and Technical Education, at mrbeaton@henrico.k12.va.us.
