Dr. John Zeisel

Dr. John Zeisel, the author of "I'm Still Here" and the approach to dementia and Alzheimer's care of the same name, will speak and sign copies of the book Nov. 3, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Beth Sholom Senior Living Community at Parkside Assisted Living, 1550 John Rolfe Parkway. The event will take place in the Sara Belle November Auditorium.

Zeisel is the founder of Hearthstone Institute, developer of the engagement-focused memory care philosophy "I’m Still Here."

The I’m Still Here approach is designed to transform and enrich the lives of those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. It represents a radical paradigm shift in dementia care by eliciting a high level of engagement from participants, enabling them to remain creative and actively engaged throughout their lives.

The program has been shown to reduce the common symptoms associated with dementia-related illnesses such as anxiety, agitation, aggression and apathy. The skills-based approach tailors activities to a person's cognitive abilities and strengths and is designed to increase self-esteem and independence in participants.

Beth Sholom’s partnership with the Hearthstone Institute to implement the I’m Still Here approach in all of its memory care units in Richmond is the only program of its kind in Central Virginia.

Admission is free, but reservations are required by calling (804) 750-2183.
