I-95 lane closures Aug. 5-6 could impact Henrico traffic

Table of Contents

Henrico commuters could be impacted by lane closures on I-95 South in Richmond near mile marker 77 Aug. 5 and 6.

Drivers should plan ahead for alternating double lane closures on the interstate near Lombardy Street, about one mile from Arthur Ashe Boulevard, beginning at about 11 p.m. Aug. 5 as crews complete a pipe-replacement project.

Only one southbound travel will be open during working hours. All lanes should be reopened before the evening hours of Sunday, August 7.

The repairs are required to replace a corrugated metal pipe that has collapsed under the interstate after many years of service. The metal pipe will be replaced with a concrete pipe, which is designed to withstand traffic, wear and tear for an even longer period of time. This replacement will also help relieve recent flooding in the vicinity that occurs after heavy rainfall.

Signs will be in place alerting traffic and suggesting alternate routes. Drivers should expect heavy congestion and delays during the closures and use alternate routes, such as I-295 and Route 288 to reach destinations south of Richmond, and Brook Road/Chamberlayne Road (Route 1/Route 301) for local destinations.
