Henrico County, Historic Preservation Advisory Committee honor 3 people, 1 family with Awards of Merit

Three people and one family were honored for their contributions to preserving Henrico County's history, during a ceremony Oct. 3 at Eastern Henrico Recreation Center.

The Henrico Historic Preservation Advisory Committee and Henrico County presented the 2024 Award of Merit to:

• former longtime Tuckahoe District Supervisor Patricia S. O’Bannon, for her legacy of support and advocacy for the preservation and interpretation of Henrico County history;

• Sarah Pace, for her continued leadership of the Henrico County Historical Society in its efforts to preserve and share Henrico County history;

• Frank J. Thornton, for his legacy of support and advocacy for the preservation and interpretation of Henrico County history;

• the Stoneman Family, for their generations of commitment to saving Henrico historic and cultural resources through the stewardship of Varina Farm.

The awards, established in 1993, recognize the efforts of individuals, businesses, and organizations who are dedicated to safeguarding the county’s heritage.
