Five days after his 21st birthday, Highland Springs High School graduate Mekhi Becton, an offensive lineman from the University of Louisville became the 11th overall selection in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night, selected by the New York Jets. Becton, who left Louisville after three years, was the third offensive lineman taken in the draft.

He had been projected to be selected in the upper half of the round, and his size and athleticism made him too attractive for the Jets to overlook.

Coming out of high school in 2017, he was rated the top offensive lineman in Virginia and among the top in the nation. He helped the Springers win the first two of their four straight Class 5 state titles during his final two years at Highland Springs, and he earned offers from a long list of Division I college programs, ultimately selecting Louisville over Oregon, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Virginia, East Carolina, Marshall, Cincinnati and Iowa State.

As a Cardinal, he became an elite lineman, growing to his current size of 6 foot 7, 370 pounds.
