Henricus Historical Park to host living history event Aug. 17

That summer, Union Army regiments under Gen. Benjamin Butler occupied the Dutch Gap Canal and Bermuda Hundred in present-day Chesterfield County. In the weeks following, the battle lines of both Union and Confederate troops found themselves at multiple stalemates around Aiken’s Landing and Jones Neck in the First and Second Battle of Deep Bottom.​

The Aug. 17 event will help attendees learn about how soldiers lived during the Richmond and Petersburg campaigns from 1864 to April 1865. Camp life, cooking, singing, games, and other duties common to the army when not in battle with be on display, along with several musket firings throughout the day.
