Henrico’s Teigen leaving for Powhatan superintendent’s role

Henrico Schools Chief of Staff Beth Teigen is leaving the school system to become the superintendent of the public school system in Powhatan County, where she lives. The Powhatan County School Board voted unanimously at its June 14 meeting to hire her to the new role, effective July 1.

In Powhatan, she will replace another former high-ranking Henrico Schools official, Eric Jones, who is retiring after nine years in the position. Jones was named the Region I Superintendent of the Year in 2017 by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.

In her role with Henrico, Teigen oversaw the departments of assessment, research and evaluation, as well as policy and constituency relations. She was one of the most publicly visible school system employees, playing a key role in support of Superintendent Amy Cashwell.

Prior to joining HCPS, she spent 17 years in Chesterfield County as a math and engineering teacher, high school assistant principal, high school principal and executive director of school administration. She is a graduate of James Madison University and earned a master’s degree from UVA and a doctor of philosophy degree from VCU. She also has served as an adjunct professor of education at the University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies.
