Henrico's reported COVID-19 cases decline by 2

Despite 4 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported today in Henrico County, the county’s overall total number of cases actually decreased by two – to 2,725 – according to the Virginia Department of Health.

That may be because officials reassigned previous positive tests to the localities of residence of those who tested positive, though it’s unknown specifically what led to the adjustments. Henrico Health Department spokesman George Jones told the Citizen Thursday that such adjustments typically are made for that reason or to correct reporting errors. (When the ZIP code of a patient is not known immediately or at all, VDH officials assign his or her results to the ZIP code of the medical facility at which the test was conducted, then adjust later if or when that information becomes available.)

Another four deaths in the county have been attributed to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths announced this month to 28. Three victims were in their 60s and the other in his or her 70s.

At least 11 of those actually occurred weeks or months ago and were only recently attributed to the virus, upon further examination of death records.

The Citizen has inquired with VDH officials about whether any of the subsequent 17 deaths are the result of similar analyses.

VDH reported only one new hospitalization among county residents Thursday.

The county's 7-day positive percentage remains at 4.6% – its all-time low – as of July 5. Another 374 PCR tests reported Thursday bring Henrico’s total number of such tests conducted to 38,286.
