Henrico County's on-time graduation rate among members of the Class of 2018 exceeded the state average, according to data released this week by the Virginia Department of Education.

Of students who entered high school in Henrico in the fall of 2014, 92.3 percent graduated in four years. That rate was higher than the state average of 91.6 percent and the average in neighboring Chesterfield (90.9 percent).

Slightly more than half of the 4,097 students who entered high school in Henrico in the fall of 2014 graduated this past June with advanced studies diplomas. Henrico's 51.4 percent rate for such diplomas was just below the state average of 52 percent.

Among racial subsets of Henrico students in the class, Asian students had the highest graduation rate (95.8 percent), while Hispanic students had the lowest rate (81.2 percent).

The graduation rates of Hispanic and black students in Henrico (91.7 percent) exceeded state averages, while the rate for white students (94 percent) fell just short of it.

Henrico's dropout rate of 5.3 percent among members of the class was lower than the state average of 5.5 percent and Chesterfield's 6.9 percent rate.

Among individual Henrico high schools, Glen Allen (98.7 percent) and Deep Run (98.5 percent) had the highest on-time graduation rates, while Highland Springs (87.8 percent) and Tucker (88.6 percent) had the lowest.

The dropout rate was highest at the latter two schools as well – 9.7 percent at Highland Springs (47 students) and 8.1 percent at Tucker (38 students). Henrico officials announced plans earlier this month to build new versions of each school in time for the 2021-22 school year.
