Henrico County reported 189 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the lowest daily amount of cases since early January. The number still is higher, however, than any single day of the pandemic in 2020

With a seven-day average of 241 cases daily, Henrico is still seeing a steep incline in COVID-19 infections.

The county also reported three new hospitalizations and four new deaths on Wednesday. People aged 40 years or older continue to be more likely to move to hospitals, but the infection rate among Henrico citizens is highest among young adults. As of this week, 20-29-year-olds make up 18.1 percent of all cases in the country, totaling to 2,883 people.

More concerning is the increase in outbreaks since this week began on Sunday, January 17. After starting the week with only eight outbreaks, the amount has more than doubled, increasing to 19 outbreaks in just a few days. Nine of these occurred at long-term care facilities, five in congregate settings, two in healthcare settings, and one in a child care facility.

After seeing positivity percentages rise sharply earlier this month, those levels have retreated since. Among rapid testing encounters between Jan. 10-16, the positivity percentage fell to 8.6%, while the PCR testing encounter average during the same period was 10.8%
