Henrico's initial unemployment claims fall again

Henrico County’s initial unemployment filings fell for the fourth consecutive week – reaching a post-pandemic low for the third straight week in the process.

A total of just 274 people filed first-time claims during the week that ended Aug. 22, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. It was the lowest total since the week prior to the pandemic, when 79 Henrico citizens filed initial unemployment claims.

Statewide, filings also fell to their lowest levels since mid-March.

Henrico witnessed the seventh-most filings during the most recent week and ranks eighth overall in total first-time filings since the pandemic began, with 38,954.
