The Virginia Department of Health Friday reported 59 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Henrico – the most in a single day in more than a month. (Sixty-three new cases were reported June 7.)

The new cases bring Henrico's total case count to 2,784, an increase of almost 100 since Monday.

The county's death and hospitalization counts also each increased by three Friday; one of the deceased was in his or her 70s, and the other two victims were in their 80s.

To date in July, VDH has announced 37 new deaths in Henrico, with at least one announced in nine of the 10 days this month. The first 11 were the result of a review of death certificates from weeks or months ago, but it's unknown whether any of the most recent 26 were. The Citizen is awaiting clarification from the VDH.

The county's death count is now 172, and its hospitalization count is 268.

Henrico's 7-day positivity percentage rose slightly to 4.7% July 6 and is expected to rise slightly in the coming days, given the uptick in new cases.

Just more than 39,000 PCR testing encounters have occurred in Henrico to date, with about 7.1 percent of them positive.
