It all happened because Olga Ritchie had a headache.

The Henrico woman went to Tony’s Market at 3714 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico to pick up some headache powder. While she was there she decided to buy a Mega Money ticket from the Virginia Lottery.

Later, at home, she scratched the ticket and discovered she’d just won the game’s $500,000 top prize.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes!” she told Lottery officials. “I almost fainted!”

Ritchie, who has worked at the same place for 42 years, said she plans to save her winnings towards retirement. She also plans to update her house.

And as for that headache?

“Turns out it was just my lucky day!” she laughed.

The Virginia Lottery recently ended the Mega Money game, although players still have until Dec. 2 to redeem any winning tickets in the game. The odds of winning that top prize are 1 in 489,600, while the odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.39.
