Henrico witnesses fourth day this year with more than 200 new COVID cases

Henrico didn’t witness a day with 200 or more confirmed COVID-19 cases in 2020, but it’s already seen four of them six days into 2021.

Another 221 new cases were confirmed in the county Jan. 6, according to the Virginia Department of Health, extending to a new record-high the average number of new daily cases reported during the past seven days to 201.

Two new deaths also were reported Wednesday, but no new hospitalizations associated with the virus were reported in Henrico.

The county’s PCR testing positivity percentage during the seven days ending Jan. 2 increased to 14.8%, up from 14.4% New Year’s Day. The rapid test positivity percentage in the county as of Jan. 2 was 15.5%, an increase from 14.1% the previous day.
