Henrico County will receive about $2.8 million as part of three federal grants announced recently by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The money will come through the Community Development Block Grant program, the HOME INnvestment Partnerships program and the Emergency Solutions Grants program and is designed to support access to safe and affordable housing throughout Virginia.

Henrico will receive about $1.72 million through the CDBG program, which provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The county will receive about $919,000 through the HOME program, which helps expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low-and very low-income families by providing grants to states and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.

And Henrico will receive slightly more than $147,000 through the ESG program, which provides annual grants to state, local, and private entities to assist people in quickly regaining stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis or homelessness.
