Henrico to host fishing tournament July 13

Table of Contents

The FLW Bass Fishing League tournament season will continue July 13 in Henrico, with a T-H Marine FLW BFL Piedmont Division tournament on the James River. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively in the one-day tournament. The event will launch from Osborne Landing in Varina at 6 a.m., with weigh-in at 2 p.m.

The James River is expected to fish well for anglers in the event, with both largemouth and smallmouth bass likely being targeted by competitors. Last July, fishing worms, crankbaits and drop-shot rigs around wood cover and brush piles in the backwaters of Herrin and Cowell creeks worked well for tournament champion Todd Walters. A five-bass limit in the 15-pound range should be enough to take home top honors, according to tournament organizers.

The 2019 BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 128 tournaments throughout the season, five qualifying events in each division. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division, along with the five winners of the qualifying events, will advance to one of six regional tournaments where they are competing to finish in the top six. Those six then qualify for one of the longest-running championships in competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American, April 30-May 2, 2020 at Lake Hartwell in Anderson, South Carolina. Top performers in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or the FLW Tour.
