Henrico officials will host the first of several planned community meetings about the county’s 2022 bond referendum, which voters will decide upon Nov. 8.

The 6 p.m. meeting Aug. 17 at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center will provide an overview of the referendum and how it would provide nearly $511.4 million in improvements to schools, parks, firehouses and other county facilities. The public will have opportunities to ask questions, and viewers also may watch the event virtually through WebEx.

The bond referendum will appear as four questions on the ballot, with a separate question for each project category: schools; recreation and parks; fire stations and public safety facilities; and stormwater drainage. Voters may cast a “yes” or “no” vote for each of the four questions; individual categories can be approved or rejected.

Approval of a category by a majority of the votes cast authorizes the county to contract debt and issue its general obligation bonds to fund the projects. County officials are proposing to pay off the bonds without increasing tax rates.

The Eastern Henrico Recreation Center is located at 1440 North Laburnum Avenue.
