Henrico to display potential land-use designation changes at 5 'Suggestion Sessions'

Table of Contents
The Henrico Planning Department will host five Suggestion Sessions to seek public input about potential land-use designation changes being considered as part of the Henrico NEXT process to update the county's comprehensive plan.
One meeting will be held in each of the county's five magisterial districts between April 14 and May 5, and attendees will have the chance to review draft land-use maps and provide feedback.
The maps will display the potential use category that county planners envision for each parcel of land in the county (for example, open space/recreation; suburban residential; office; urban mixed-use). Those categories in some cases will be the same as the designations that appear on the county's current 2026 comprehensive plan and in other cases will be different.
Planners are working to update the plan to imagine the county in 2045. Land-use designations, even once adopted by the Henrico Board of Supervisors, do not change the zoning of a property but instead serve as a recommendation to guide future decision-making.
At each of the five meetings, attendees will have the chance to watch a short video that explains the planning process and the purpose of the future land use designations. Planning staffers also will be available to show maps of individual properties or neighborhoods as well as explain zoning, answer questions, and collect feedback.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a smartphone or tablet to facilitate the collection of input.
In addition to being available at the Suggestion Sessions, the draft land use maps will be available online beginning the afternoon of April 14. New reports and other information also are available on the website.
Public comments provided at the meetings and through the website will be considered before the land use maps are revised for eventual review by the Henrico Planning Commission, and then ultimately approved by the board of supervisors.
