Henrico County residents can recycle their Christmas trees from Thursday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Jan. 9, through a free service offered by Keep Henrico Beautiful and the Henrico Department of Public Utilities.

The service is available to Henrico residents only and is designed to help preserve landfill space and protect the environment.

Trees can be dropped off at any time during the two-week period at the Henrico Government Center at 4301 East Parham Road (in the lower parking lot) and the Eastern Government Center at 3820 Nine Mile Road (in the front parking lot).

Residents also may drop off trees from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at the Springfield Road Public Use Area at 10600 Fords Country Lane near Nuckols Road and Interstate 295 and the Charles City Road Public Use Area at 2075 Charles City Road.

Trees should be free of all tinsel, lights, ornaments, tree stands, and water bowls. Residents should not place trees in their trash carts or curbside for weekly trash collection service, as they are ineligible for pickup, even if they are cut into pieces.

Henrico residents also can pick up free mulch at public use areas. For details, call (804) 501-7277 or visit henrico.gov/services/free-mulch.
