Henrico Theatre Company announces its 40th season

Table of Contents

The Henrico Theatre Company will celebrate its 40th season by bringing back some of its favorite shows from the past.

The group, which is sponsored by the Henrico Recreation and Parks division and is the resident theatre company at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, will present four shows during its 2018-19 season:

• Always… Patsy Cline – Sept 14-30, 2018

A musical by Ted Swindley directed by Craig Smith, this tribute to the legendary country singer is based on a true story about Cline’s longtime friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger. It includes Cline's hits such as Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, and Walking After Midnight. The show was a sellout production in 2010 and will again feature Shannon Gibson Brown as Patsy Cline and Jenny Howren as Louise.

• A Christmas Carol – Nov 30-Dec 16, 2018

The HTC first presented this famed holiday show in 1989. It features music by Lynn Stevens and is directed by Terri Moore. An old miser is given a chance for redemption when he is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve. What follows is the true meaning of Christmas.

• Arsenic & Old Lace – May 13-19, 2019

The HTC first performed this comedy by Joseph Kesselring – about the sweet old spinster aunts who populate their cellar with the remains of socially “acceptable” gentlemen roomers – in 1997. The performance will be directed by H. Lynn Smith.

• The Fantasticks – July 12-28, 2019

A musical comedy with book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, this romantic fable about a boy, a girl, their fathers (who try to keep them apart) and a love that grows with each season is the longest running musical in the world. HTC performed its first presentation of the show in 1985. This version will be directed by Richard Koch. It includes such memorable songs as Soon It’s Gonna Rain, Time to Remember and Plant a Radish.

All performances take place at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Tickets are available now and may be purchased as a season package or for individual shows.
