Henrico supervisors set public review of proposed budget for March 19-22

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors will conduct a public review March 19-22 of the county’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2018-19.

The departmental reviews, held with County Manager John Vithoulkas, agency directors and other county officials, are set for the County Manager’s Conference Room, third floor of the Henrico County Government Center Administration Building, 4301 E. Parham Road.

The proposed budget for fiscal 2018-19 totals $1.3 billion, a 3.6 percent increase over the current year, and retains the real estate tax rate of 87 cents per $100 dollars assessed value. The budget includes a general fund of $871.9 million, representing an increase of 3.8 percent over the current year. About 56 percent of the general fund, or $485.1 million, will support the operating budget of Henrico County Public Schools.

The schedule for the board’s review is:

Monday, March 19: Overview
• 9 a.m.-noon: Budget overview, expenditure and revenue briefings, administrative agencies
• 1-5 p.m.: Courts and related services including Juvenile Detention, Commonwealth’s Attorney, non-departmental projects

Tuesday, March 20: Community Services
• 1-3 p.m.: Registrar, Human Resources, Public Library and administrative agencies
• 3-5 p.m.: Community development agencies including Planning, Community Revitalization and Economic Development

Wednesday, March 21: Public Safety and Education
• 9 a.m.-noon: Police, Fire and Sheriff
• 1-5 p.m.: Schools, Social Services

Thursday, March 22: Community Operations
• 9 a.m.-noon: Recreation & Parks, Public Works, Public Utilities
• 1-3 p.m.: Mental Health & Developmental Services, Health
• 3-5 p.m.: Capital projects
