Henrico supervisors approve subsidized housing project in Eastern Henrico, $27 million in other projects

The Henrico Board of Supervisors approved a $625,000 grant in support of an affordable housing project in Eastern Henrico at its most recent meeting Aug. 27.

Project:HOMES, a Richmond-based nonprofit, will buy 5910 and 5920 Nine Mile Road in the Varina District and build a subdivision of at least 22 affordable homes there. The homes will be limited to qualified purchasers who make no more than 120% of the median income for the Richmond area (currently $58,988, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.)

At its meeting, the board also approved $27 million in contracts:
• Up to $10 million to HDR Engineering Inc. for engineering services, as needed, at the county’s solid waste facilities.
• Up to $10 million to Hazen and Sawyer for engineering services, as needed, at the county’s water reclamation facilities.
• An additional $728,000 to Waco Inc. to replace aging water treatment facility equipment.
• $4.1 million to Godsey and Son Inc. to install 3,000 to 4,000 feet of water and sewer mains, fire hydrants, and provide water and sewer services along North Mullens Lane and East Washington Street;
• $1.3 million to Crown Construction Service Inc. to install 3,300 feet of water main and provide water services to 35 properties along Appling Road, Greenwood Road, Patch Road, and Patch Terrace;
• $427,000 to D.E. Hawthorne Inc. to replace 900 feet of failing water main along Huntsmoor Drive;
• $369,000 to Comfort Systems of Virginia to replace the office HVAC systems for the Road Crew Building;

Separately, the board appointed defense attorney Stephen Mutnick — of the firm Winslow, McCurry, and MacCormac — to the Community Criminal Justice Board.
