The Henrico Board of Supervisors Tuesday unanimously approved a rezoning case to allow the construction of nearly 300 apartments and four retail buildings at the southeast intersection of Pouncey Tract Road and Twin Hickory Lake Drive.

County planners said that the development, which is expected to produce slightly more than 4,100 daily vehicle trips, would actually produce much less traffic that a previous proposal. The apartments also are expected to produce a very small number of students for the public schools in the region – Colonial Trail Elementary, Short Pump Middle and Deep Run High.

Three Chopt District Supervisor Tommy Branin said that the developer, Blackwood Development Company, had addressed most concerns.

“It’s a lot more comprehensive project than a ton of retail off of Broad Street,” Branin said.
