Henrico supervisors approve resolution seeking seats on GRTC board

Henrico supervisors passed a resolution July 27 to direct County Manager John Vithoulkas to work with Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and Chesterfield County Administrator Joseph Casey on the steps necessary to add Henrico County as an equal partner on the Greater Richmond Transit Company Board of Directors by Dec. 31.

The move came three months after supervisors had a lengthy discussion about their desire to have equal representation on the board.

GRTC operates a number of bus routes in Henrico, which the county funds, and Henrico is expected to become the largest local source of Central Virginia Transportation Authority revenue for GRTC by the 2023-2024 fiscal year, according to the board paper.

Henrico does not currently have representation on the six-member board of directors but wants to have three – the same number that the city of Richmond and Chesterfield County have – “in formulating future GRTC decisions about regional transportation services,” according to the board paper.
